Question: Is my medical still in effect while I'm on strike?
Answer: YES. Your medical continues to the end of the month as if you are still working. At the end of the month, your medical will then be picked up by the International Union. Medical union packages will handed out next week.
Question: Is the Negotiating Team receiving their normal pay - as if they were still working?
Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOT. They receive exactly what the members are making.
Question: How will we be paid?
Answer: Union cards will be issued sometime next week. These cards will be stamped or punched, which will enable yo to get paid. Make sure that you do not loose them. In the meantime, continue to sign rosters.
Question: What happens to an employee who de-certifies themselves from the Union?
Answer: Numerous things could happen. In order to be working in this plant it is required that you be union. Heavy fines and possible non-reinstatement will be sanctioned on the employees.
Question: What is being done to get the Union/Strike Captains up to speed on their duties?
Answer: We are planning emergency meetings with all of them to get them on board with all of their responsibilities.
Question: Hour many hours a week are needed in order to get paid?
Answer: 8 hours are required. Most employees will be given two gate assignments of 4 hours each. Exceptions of 8 hours will be made for employee's who have a long commute.
Question: We are hearing a rally is scheduled for Friday, Is this true?
Answer: YES. We are encouraging everyone to participate in this rally. It will be on Friday, May 14th from 1-3pm on Cherry and Wardlow. Other Unions have contacted us and want to participate. Please bring whistles and any other noise makers that you can think of.
From the UAW Strike Assistance Program Local Union Handbook:
TERM OF STRIKE ASSISTANCE
"A member shall accumulate Strike Assistance credits effective on the eighth day of the strike (for this purpose, Saturdays and Sundays shall be included to establish the eight days). For each day's pay missed due to the strike, Monday through Friday, a member shall receive one day's Strike Assistance at the prorated daily amount".
"Strike Assistance shall be made available to the member beginning on the 15th day of the strike".
"Any member who is eligible for Strike Assistance immediately preceding the termination of the strike will be paid one (1) additional week of Strike Assistance".
SCHEDULE OF BENEFITS
"If eligible, effective August 1, 2002, all members shall receive $200 per week, regardless of status (i.e. $40 per day for each day on strike, beginning with the eighth day of the strike, Monday through Friday)".
"Upon approval by the International President and Secretary-Treasurer, the International Union will pay from its Strike Fund: Group Life, Transition Bridge, and Group Medical-Hospital Insurance costs (excluding dental, vision, audio, and sick and accident), for striking members who participate in a strike activity assigned by the local union".
